The Golden Book - Six mooving pictures with rymed verses for well bred children

Schaller & Kirn. Fürth 1885

This is the English Edition of Das goldene Buch: sechs bewegliche Bilder mit passenden Versen für artige Kinder

Very unusual use of gold foil for the 6 movable backgrounds - quite beautiful

12.5 X 8.2 (31 cm X 21.5 CM)

Condition: Very Good. All movables complete, and working. All parts original except for the expert restoration of a woman's arm on the third movable. Covers and binding very nice for age. Some of the gold leaf used to intricately decorate the cover is worn.

Notes on the publisher: ( We are finishing our research on the short lived Bavarian publisher, Schaller & Kirn. We expect to post it soon to this site under Movable Book History Articles.)

In 1883 Karl Schaller founded the Lithographic Art Institute and Storybook Factory in Fureth Bavaria along with a partner with Gregor Kirn. Kirn left the business in 1885 making Schaller the sole owner. Movable books imprinted Schaller & Kirn ( or SK) were likely published in 1884 or 1885. After 1885 they were Carl Schaller or C. Schaller.
