An Ad in The Publishers Weekly, Volume 92, F. Leypoldt, 1917, page 59 states:

The Fold-A-Way Play Books Designed and Patented By Will Pente are wonderful Cut-out books that will amuse, instruct, and delight all children.

Set up devices, character and pictures—printed in unusually attractive colors—all fold over into double-sided toys that show both front and back and stand up like wooden ones.

An Absolutely New Idea in books of toys-to-cut out

Only too often the ordinary “cut-out" books lose their interest and value when the cutting-out is finished. With Fold-A-Ways that's where the fun begins

—the toys can be handled and played with after they are are made.

Neither paste nor easel is required. The patented Fold-A-Way forms a base
upon which the toy stands upright and rigid. And all of the book is put to use, even the covers, which form trunks, houses, tablecloths or scene backgrounds.
