We love classic antique movable books by Meggendorfer, Nister, Kubasta, Raphael Tuck, Dean & Son, and more!

This site is owned and operated by Betty Tisinger with the help of her son Bryan and occasioanal technical assistance from her daughter Jo. Email questions to us at [email protected]

Many of Mom's books, or as we like to call them “little works of art”, can be seen in a permanent collection in the Library of Special Collections Division at Virginia Commonwealth University where Mom retired after 20 years as Professor Emeritus in the School of Arts. A recent article about her collection can be seen here:

Some of our rarer family books, as well as some of yours, are being offered here at vintagepopupbooks.com. Note that we appreciate nothing more than to have dedicated collector friends from around the globe weigh in and offer extra tidbits and corrections to the historical briefs about each book. We often re-edit, in the hopes of maintaining a permanent database on the research that has gone into many of these fascinating older titles. Once a book sells the photos and descriptions move over and remain to be enjoyed in our Virtual Museum. Once there new information continues to be posted so that each entry continues to evolve as a historical and fascinating reference for all of us to enjoy. These days, vintage bookstores are woefully scarce in their antiquarian pop-up, and movable book inventories and auction sites rarely turn up good condition examples. Our extensive collection won’t last forever. That is why we encourage consignments. If you have a very special movable book in great condition email us. We would appreciate considering selling your book on consignment. Some of the books that our customers are most interested in include all pop-ups and movables published before 1930, fine condition books published in the 1930’s, large format pop-ups by Kubasta, and limited edition pop-up books by some of the best modern day renowned artists and paper engineers. We are also interested in elaborate pop-ups in unusual formats and for special purposes such as advertisements and special events or places.

Perhaps you are a collector that doesn’t want to sell your rare book, but you’d like to show it off along with any research that tells it’s story. We’d love to hear from you – and to post it in our special Virtual Museum section for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to serving you, and our fellow movable book lovers with as much great information as we can. Email us photos and history/description of your favorite books published before 1970; we will put them in our searchable gallery for all to enjoy. Let’s all share in the appreciation, incredible awe, and wonder of these marvelous treasures. Send to: [email protected]

Contact us at [email protected] with questions about buying our books, consigning a book, or helping us to upgrade descriptions and research – remember, we LOVE to be corrected and updated! Don’t forget to email us great photos and copy for our Virtual Museum, we will happily credit you and your collectio, or you can request that we simply use the book info.

Recently over 100 movables from Mother's collection were on exhibit in Europe. She is delighted that many of her Holiday themed "little works of art" were exhibited in Spain during December 2014 and January 2015 at the University of Santago de Compostela. The exhibit was entitled A Christmas in Full Dimensions. A video of the Spanish show can be seen here Betty Tisinger Collection - Spain
