Octavo. [10] pages of elaborate pop-up scenes engineered by Robert Sabuda. Bound in full green cloth with gilt-stamped spine and mounted pictorial pop-up limitation on front cover. Housed in a matching green cloth slipcase with an inlaid woodcut-style print signed and numbered by Sabuda. The entire production is enclosed in the original publisher’s green cloth clamshell box, which bears a paper label matching the limitation number. Both the book and the signed print are hand-numbered and signed by Sabuda.
This deluxe edition is one of only 50 specially issued copies, distinguished by the inclusion of a separate signed and numbered print housed in a custom-built holder within the slipcase. The limitation pop-up affixed to the cover is also unique to this issue. A more common limited edition of 250 copies was released without the added print. The present copy—no. 10 of 50—is from the rarer and more desirable run.
Robert Sabuda’s imaginative interpretation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz reimagines L. Frank Baum’s 1900 classic with intricate paper engineering, die-cuts, and full-color pop-ups, many enhanced with interactive elements. Widely considered one of the most important contemporary movable book artists, Sabuda’s work is held in both private and institutional collections.
