Collector’s Corner:
This charming interactive title is part of a very early series by Saalfield Publishing Company, one of the most prolific publishers of children's books in the U.S. from 1900 to 1977. While Saalfield is best known for 20th-century productions, this rare 1897 series likely represents one of their earliest forays into movable toy books.
As advertised in The Bookseller, Newsdealer and Stationer (1897), this series of stand-up books included:
Series 1:
Tales From Fairyland
The Animal World
Series 2:
Fairy Tale Pictures
Fairy Tale Friends
At The Farm
Our Wild Animals
Books from this series are extremely rare in fully intact, unpunched condition
