Dating this book: Note that this is one the earliest editions of Dean's Moveables. The book states the address of 11 Ludgate Hill. Dean and Son was located at 11 Ludgate Hill from 1845-1853. We opine that it was printed in 1853. Note also the "earlier" logo at the bottom of the book compared to the same book published without the Ludgate Hiss Street address.

Collector's Corner:

This book is part of Dean’s Moveable Book Series
Each book in the series had 8 movable plates, Pull tabs that moved 2-3 parts of each image.
The size of each was 11 ½ x 7 ½ inches; 285 x 185mm or 9 ¾” X 6 ¾”
The general consensus is that this series was published from 1857 to 1864 and cost 2 shillings each. But finding some copies of Dean moveables with 11 Ludgate Hill on the cover suggests that they could have been producing moveables from at least 1853 since Dean moved to 31 Ludgate Hill in 1854.

They were advertised at the time as "Dean & Son's Series of Two Shilling Coloured MOVEABLE-FIGURE BOOKS, CHANGEABLE SCENE BOOKS, &o. By a mechanical contrivance, the principal Characters move and act in accordance with the incidents of the Story"
.
Note: According to old book references from the time you could pay an extra shilling(3s) for untearable cloth on some of the titles. It is interesting that the untearable cloth books were more expensive than the moveables.

Collect them all: The first 15 books in the series* were: (Note that quite a few came after this, we are researching all the titles and will report a full - as far as we can find - Dean movable title list to our newsletter subscribers and customers in the future)
