Quarto (10 x 8 inches); [16] pages. 1/4 cloth spine with illustrated paper over boards. Two double-page color pop-up spreads, with additional central lift-the-flap page. There are 18 pages of text in the middle section. Numerous color illustrations appear throughout the text block and on the reverse sides of the pop-ups. The cut-out window on front cover shows Alice about to fall down the rabbit hole. The cut-out cellophane viewing window on the front board, doubles as a pool on the reverse. When closed, the images in the first pop-up are skillfully layered, allowing the reader to see some of the characters without opening the book. Text printed on both rectos and versos. In the illustration towards the end of the book, a hidden door in the tree opens to reveal an extra surprise.
Undated, but issued in the mid-1960s as part of Bancroft’s “Panascopic Model Book” series featuring Vojtech Kubasta’s signature paper engineering.
Condition: Both pop-up scenes are in excellent original condition with no missing pieces. Covers are beautiful with only slight corner corner bumping. The cellophane window is in wonderful shape without damage or discoloration Small flaws: There is slight scuffing at the foot of one part - see image #7. The frog droops when opened but stays up without assistance when lightly pushed back up - see image # 4. The front pop-up on last page is a bit tired and does not stand straight up without help - see image # 2
A bright, complete example of a scarce Kubasta edition.
