It is interesting to note that in old advertisements for this book Dean & Son referred to it as ‘The History of a Young Lady that was Stolen by Gypsies. They also touted it as"
Equal to a gift of Six Dressed Dolls"
The 1860 ad states:
First dressed figure, the Little Girl tempted by the Gipsy.
Second dressed figure, the Little Girl as dressed when stolen by the Gipsy.
Third dressed figure, the Little Girl when with the Farmer.
Fourth dressed figure, the Little Girl going to Market.
Fifth dressed figure, the Little Girl when at Lady's house on a visit.
Sixth dressed figure, the Little Girl when returned home to Aunt and Friends.
